friday favorites - beautycounter edition
Happy Friday guys! We made it! It's been a long week getting back into a routine after Hurricane Irma threw all of Florida for a loop last week. Our kids were acting extra crazy, and I felt one step behind all week since we had no internet last week, and therefore I got no work done.
Now that things are getting back on track, I want to introduce you to a local Florida friend of mine, Katrine. I met her a couple months ago at a blogger and brand event in St. Augustine, and we really hit it off! She's working on an amazing app called Soulments to capture memories of our kids for those of us moms who struggle to fill out the baby book - and I can't wait to share that with you all! In the meantime, I want to talk about her passion project, Beautycounter. She gave me a chance to test out some of her favorite products, and I have to say, I'm hooked! Here's a little background on how she got started:
"Soon after I had my first child, I started thinking more about the products we were using in our home - everything from cleaners to yogurt. I discovered EWG (Environmental Working Group) and was shocked to learn that products I thought were safe were in reality not. I grew frustrated when I discovered that just because one product a company has on the market is safe does not mean all of their products are rated as safe. My research going product by product was just plain exhausting.
A close friend, who is also a non-toxic expert, told me about Beautycounter. I loved that I could pick up any Beautycounter product and know with confidence that it was tested at the highest levels to be safe. I used the products for about two years and absolutely loved everything I tried. Finally safe products that were also highly effective!
I decided to join Beautycounter's team of consultants soon after leaving my corporate job for more of a work-life balance. The company's advocacy work to change the market is what made the largest impact on me personally. I, too, want to educate people that what we put on our skin matters - it matters a lot. It's an amazing mission for which I am proud to be a part."
As a mom who is striving to get our family to eat cleaner, this makes a lot of sense to me - what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put in our body! I think any mom who is looking for cleaner, safer skincare and makeup will absolutely love what Beautycounter has to offer. Here are a few of my absolute favorite products:
1. Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
You guys. This product is amazing. Now that I live in Florida, I'm much more aware of the sunscreen I use, and I've been stressing the past two years about whether I should have a separate foundation and facial sunscreen, and how often I should apply which, and when I should apply it. Yikes!
This Tinted Moisturizer changes everything. I can put it on first thing in the morning, and then add another layer before going out in the sun. It would also be perfect for the beach, when I don't want a full face of makeup, but still want to look fresh-faced. I've also recently learned how important Vitamin C is in your skincare routine, and this moisturizer contains it! If I had to recommend one product, this is it!
2. Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation
This is the first step of the Flawless in Five system I'll talk about at the end. It's a lightweight foundation that made my skin look like it was glowing. I like this for a more finished look (like when I'm actually leaving the house).
3. Cleansing Balm
I knew I was going to love this product before I even tried it, mainly because the packaging is so pretty. But in all seriousness, it's a cleanser and makeup remover in one, and it's incredibly moisturizing. I noticed a big difference in my skin within a few days!
4. Lip Gloss
I really liked the natural look of this lip gloss. I don't wear a lot of lipstick and feel really self-conscious when I do, so this was the perfect finish without looking overdone. And since I wear my hair down almost every day, I appreciate that the formula wasn't sticky!
Moms, you'll definitely want to check out the Flawless in Five collection. It's a great deal on 6 products you'll need to look put together. If you're looking to get rid of toxic products in your beauty routine, and replace them with cleaner options, this is a great place to start.
When you head over to the site, be sure to select Emily's Online Social (looks like the picture below). Also, as a special offer to my readers, Katrine is offering a free lipgloss to anyone who spends $150 or more for the next week! Be sure to check it out!
