theodore's second birthday
Theodore Scott
You are two years old! In some ways it feels like you've been two for so long. You're big in stature, big in personality, and now a big brother! I wrote in your first birthday post that you light up every room you enter. That holds true today! There is something about your curly blond hair and your goofy grin that attracts attention wherever we go. At the grocery store, Target, TJ Maxx, the beach, or the library, people stop us just to tell us how cute you are. You've got that je ne sais quoi!
Your second year on earth involved a lot of growing for both of us. You had to go to school every afternoon while I taught, and that was so hard at first! You're a mama's boy at heart, and you boycotted naps for your poor teachers because you just wanted mama. By the end of the school year, though, you were running to your classroom door to see your teacher and friends, and ignored me when I came to pick you up.
I had to learn what it's like to be a boy mom. Pippa was perfectly content to stay at home all day every day and do activities - reading, coloring, toys, and games. But you, son, needed to burn off energy! I had to learn to get out of the house every day or suffer the consequences. We took trips to the park, the library, Dunkin Donuts, and Target - anything to get you up and moving!
Also, I see you have inherited my temper. Sorry about that one. We are both learning to handle your rage when you don't get what you want. Or when Pippa tells you no. Or when no one can interpret your language.
Speaking of your language...it's...creative. By 15 months you could say "basketball," yet you still refuse to say Lewis's name at 2 years old, preferring instead to call him "baby." Your verb for "to get dressed" is "agubagubaguba." Your word for baseball is babio. You say "adaba" instead of bottle, and "ah-nah" for "get the top off this container." You sing every word you know to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - for example "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Ma. Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Ma." (Insert apple, Daddy, Pippa, agua, or whatever word is on your mind).
Teddy Bear, you're our sports-loving, hat-wearing, hard-playing middle child, and we love you so much. Can't wait to see what 2 brings!
